By allowing full rotational adjustment to align flange bolt holes, the swivel ring flange greatly simplifies the final tie-in process. However, the simplicity of the swivel ring flange concept belies the fact that this specialized device must accommodate considerable tangential, shear, and rotational moment loads for installation and long-term service conditions.
Alignment is an important and critical feature when bolting subsea pipeline flanges together. The outer ring flange of the swivel ring flange assembly is held in position by a retainer ring that freely rotates around the inner weld-neck hub for quickly positioning the bolt holes of the two joining flanges.
